Company History
Brooks Manufacturing Co. has been producing distribution crossarms, braces, and transmission structure framing components since the 1930s. We are one of only two crossarm producers remaining in the U.S. to offer complete product lines with total control and ownership of all manufacturing processes. This encompasses all stages from kiln drying the raw material, to pressure treating the finished product.
Our company has reinvested millions of dollars during the past 10 years to modernize and automate our production and treating facilities. In addition, we continuously update our office systems, computers and software. During the past several years, we have added personnel in sales, engineering, and shipping in order to provide value added services that our customers no longer have the resources to provide for themselves. The development of crossarm long term contracts, adjustable pricing, consignment programs, vendor managed inventory, just-in-time delivery and other methods of cost and inventory reduction were pioneered by Brooks beginning in the 1980s. To our knowledge, we have had more experience in these areas than all our competitors combined. This experience includes working closely with customer teams to develop ways to reduce supply chain costs, while also improving quality and service. Quality has always been the cornerstone of our manufacturing philosophy. It has played a key role in making us a leader in the industry. Every Brooks employee has an obligation to protect and maintain our quality standards. We believe that Brooks Manufacturing Co. is the only crossarm company to have an ongoing Quality Control program that covers all activities from purchasing, inventory, manufacturing, shipping and customer satisfaction. The program is reviewed on a monthly basis by our QC Committee. The committee is headed by our President-General Manager, and includes the Plant Manager, Production Manager, Technical Director and the National Sales Manager. Any changes or new procedures are added to our Quality Control Manual, which currently consists of 100-plus pages outlining procedures and control documents. Brooks is one of only two crossarm manufacturers with experienced wood structural Engineering personnel. Our staff can provide design assistance and perform structure component testing in-house. Brooks is a member of AWPA, WWPI and ANSI. This enables us to educate our customers about current industry trends, specification activities, and preservative treatment issues. |
