Quality Standards and Specifications
The BROOKS team is proud of the quality of the products we manufacture.
Millions of our distribution crossarms and transmission framing
components have been installed on utility poles in the United States
and other parts of the world. Many of these have been in service for
over 60 years. Our years of success are the result of following
stringent specifications in purchasing, grading, production, treating,
and shipping. This attention to detail is your assurance that the
finished product will fully meet your specified standards.
BROOKS Douglas fir Crossarms and Transmission Framing meet the latest revisions of the applicable product quality standards and specifications shown below. Most of these reference additional standards for method and quality. WCLIB Rule No.17 Sawmill standard for grading West Coast solid sawn timber. BROOKS purchases only the stock which meets this standard. Para. 169/169 a (Transmission). Para. 170/170a (Distribution). RUS (REA) Bulletin 1728H-701 Product standard for finished crossarms for the REA utilities. Unless otherwise directed, all material for REA borrowers will be produced to this standard. ANSI 05.2 Product standard for structural glued laminated timber for utility structures. References AITC 117 and ANSI/AITC A190.1 (old PS 56-73). BROOKS produces many distribution and transmission arms and framing from laminated materials. ANSI 05.3 Product standard for solid sawn wood crossarms and braces. This standard replaces EEI TD-90, TD-91, TD-92, and TD-93. BROOKS products meet this standard. Individual Utility Specifications BROOKS is always willing to produce to your individual product specifications and standards. NRECA-WQC The Wood Quality Control program administered by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association sets stringent production and treatment standards which must be met in order to sell WQC approved wood products. BROOKS has met these standards and is an approved supplier under the NRECA-WQC program. EEI TD-90 Specification for Douglas fir Distribution Size Crossarms. EEI TD-91 Specification for Dense Southern Pine Crossarms. EEI TD-92 Specification for Douglas fir Transmission Size Crossarms. EEI TD-93 Specification for Heavy Duty Douglas fir Braces. These specifications are no longer printed or endorsed by the Edison Electric Institute. However, due to long-time industry usage and until full implementation of ANSI 05.3, all material for investor-owned and other non-REA utilities, unless otherwise specified, will be produced to these specifications. Materials so produced will be available as long as we are requested to do so. AWPA C-25 Standard for pressure treating solid sawn crossarms, by the American Wood Preservers Association. All BROOKS pentachlorophenol treated crossarms meet or exceed this specification. AWPA C-28 Standard for pressure treating laminated crossarms, by the American Wood Preservers Association. All BROOKS pentachlorophenol treated crossarms meet or exceed this specification. |
